Cokito, who stabbed student Celine 16 times: the dog survived dirty

27-year-old Ivan Kokinov nearly escaped from prison for being insane, but a five-year psychiatric exam nailed him

Psychiatrists: He has an illness, but mostly he’s faking it

The 17-year-old girl has a punctured lung, several
serious condition, but alive

The time is around 20:00, June 27, 2021. Two girls and their friend leave block 33 of “Izgrev” district of Burgas and go for a walk. The three pass in front of a grocery store, where Ivan Kokinov, 27, is at that moment – Kokito, the young man lives on the next block. Kokito is

naked to the waist, wearing yellowish shorts, laced with a large kitchen knife

When one of the girls in the company, 17-year-old Celine, walks past him, he glares at her because of an old feud with his brother.

An hour earlier, Kokito had gone with friends to the “Meden Rudnik” neighborhood to get some pico. They take a taxi to the drug dealer and go back to the grocery store in “Izgrev” in the same taxi.

At 21:00, Celine and company decide to go home and head to the 33 block. On the way, it occurs to them to go to their grandmother’s grave – the cemetery is nearby, and they head to the pedestrian path on ” Transportna “Avenue. So they pass for the second time in front of the shop, in front of which Kokito is still chatting with his belongings.

Seeing Celine, Cokito catches fire and runs after the teenagers with the knife at his waist. He joined them on the sidewalk and approached Celine from the left side, swung the knife and inflicted a 15cm wound in her neck area. He took a small step back, waved his arms and attacked the girl again, stabbing her in the shoulder.

Celine tried to run away, but the attacker caught up with her and knocked her to the ground. Standing on it and

he began to mercilessly stab her in the back with the knife

Subsequently, experts will find out that in 20 seconds he inflicted 16 stab wounds. The girl screamed in terror, begging him to stop, but the distraught man continued to stab her.

From both lanes of the avenue, cars began to stop and people began to get out. A woman screamed, the attacker gasped and, seeing the crowd gathered, let go of the girl and ran away. A young man tried to reach him, but lost him among the blocks of flats in the neighborhood.

Until an ambulance arrived, the injured woman’s friend and bystanders pressed the deep wounds with clothes and towels to stop the bleeding. The 17-year-old girl was taken to UMBAL-Burgas in very serious condition. Celine had a punctured lung, as a result of which she received a pneumothorax, she was operated on urgently.

With the knife and spattered with his victim’s blood, Cokito walked past his company, said he’d messed up, and returned home. His father found him overexcited over a glass of brandy.

His son admitted to him that he stabbed a girl. Then the father called 112 and called the police himself. In one of the rooms, the police found a bloody kitchen knife.

Within a few days, several examinations were carried out, appointed by the supervising prosecutor Georgi Chinev. A DNA test confirms that the blood on Kokinov’s asphalt, shoe, shorts and leg is that of the victim.

A blood sample did not reveal the presence of drugs, psychotropic drugs and alcohol in the prisoner. But in his urine there were narcotic substances of the group of amphetamines and methamphetamines. Kokinov himself admitted this

he took drugs two days before the attack

An identification was also made, in which witnesses categorically indicated the tattooed Kokinov as the perpetrator of the attack. Also seized the recordings of the cameras in the area.

“The dirty dog survived,” Kokito complained in the detention center to his cellmate, to whom he told of the assault. He admitted that he tried to stab the girl to her heart. But he was convinced that they would hardly have condemned him, because years ago he had been treated in psychiatry.

With his cellmate, a witness in the case, Kokinov behaved normally, but in front of the others he pretended to be crazy.

You spoke to yourself and waved your hands – you did it to be released,

he even asked his cellmate, with whom he became friends, to testify that he wasn’t mentally well. However, the prisoner refused. During interrogations, Kokinov, accused of attempted murder, confessed to what he had done.

Kokito developed a drug addiction in high school and due to 4 suicide attempts, he was treated at the Burgas Mental Health Center and 3 times placed in a commune for drug addicts.

The young man committed suicide because he heard voices threatening him that if he didn’t, his relatives would be killed.

On the day of the attack on the student, he deliberately took the kitchen knife to personally take care of the neighbors that the “voices” told him to liquidate.

The initially appointed complex forensic psychiatric and psychological expertise came to the conclusion that at the time of the crime, and subsequently, Kokito suffered from a long-term disorder of consciousness, which prevented him from understanding the nature and meaning of what he had done and directing his actions. his actions.

But at the same time the presence of state simulation is not excluded.

Experts have grown suspicious due to frequent displays of defensive behavior

against the background of the generally disorganized and psychotically determined thinking activity demonstrated.

In August 2021, a triple complex forensic psychiatric and psychological examination was appointed. At that time, Kokito was already being treated in the Lovech prison hospital.

Psychiatrists have expressed the opinion that the man suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, as well as mental and behavioral disorders due to drug use. According to the triple examination, he was unable to understand what he was doing and to direct his actions.

At the same time, research has shown that he has good cognitive functions, there are no violations of his intellectual abilities. However, the three-pronged examination ruled out the possibility of malingering as defensive behavior.

Despite the conclusion and the possibility that the case could simply be dropped, the supervising prosecutor Georgi Chinev issued a decree for a new five-year psychiatric examination.

“I couldn’t just drop the case. How to explain to the injured girl,

of the mother? And even after an in-depth analysis of the triple expert opinion, reservations emerged on the validity and correctness of the conclusion, since part of the evidence available in the case had not been examined.

And this largely prevented an authoritative assessment of the defendant’s final diagnosis and possible simulation,” Prosecutor Chinev commented.

This leads to a five-point expert opinion, for which Prof. Dr. Petar Marinov, head of the Department of Forensic Psychiatry, was involved. His conclusions are that no definitive evidence of serious mental illness has been found, which would prevent the conduct of criminal proceedings.

However, the presence of simulation behavior as a defensive reaction is confirmed: the defendant presented as real symptoms that he experienced in reality, but in the past.

Experts indicate that Kokinov has mixed-type personality disorder, also known as psychopathy, but he’s not insane. They warn him

man is a danger both to himself and to others

and recommend that he be placed on permanent medical treatment if convicted.

On November 8 of this year the Burgas District Court sentenced Kokinov to 15 years in prison, but since he admitted his guilt, the sentence was reduced by 1/3. In addition to serving 10 years in prison, he will have to pay BGN 50,000 in non-pecuniary damages to the student’s mother, who has filed as a civil plaintiff.

According to the state prosecution, the degree of public danger of the deed and the perpetrator is extremely high. And above all, the crime was committed with particular cruelty. All things that characterize him as a cruel person according to the prosecutor Chinev.

Recall that most of the blows were inflicted while the victim was in a helpless state, and the attacker with a knife whose blade exceeded 12 cm. Moreover, the crime remained unfinished not because Kokinov refused, but because people they intervened.

The perpetrator deliberately inflicted blows on vital areas of the body, acting with direct intent and wishing the girl dead.

Although Kokinov confessed in court and expressed regret for what he had done, the victim’s lawyer Stanko Kralev asked for a 20-year prison sentence.

In turn, the defendant’s defense asked the court to consider Kokinov’s mental state. Lawyer Georgi Stalev has asked to be placed in the psychiatric ward of Lovech prison.

Celine, who will be in high school, voluntarily not present in court

She and the whole family try to forget as much as possible the nightmare they experienced and move on with their lives.

The mother, who is a doctor, is infinitely grateful to her colleagues who saved Celine’s life, as well as to the people who helped her as she lay bloodied on the asphalt.

The decision of the Burgas District Court can be appealed before the appellate magistrates.
