“Racism has no place in the world, and racism has no place on social media,” said James Queens, the company’s chief executive, in a brief statement.

He said social media companies need to be “more accountable and transparent”.

Coca-Cola will use this pause to “evaluate our advertising policies to determine if necessary.” [tās] review, “said Queens.

The company told CNBC that this “break” in advertising did not mean joining the movement launched last week by African American and civil society organizations.

The coalition, which includes the National Association for Black Emancipation (NAACP), has called on companies to stop advertising on Facebook via the #StopHateForProfit snapshot.

British and Dutch consumer goods company Unilever said on Friday it would suspend advertising on social media on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in the United States until the end of the year due to a “polarized election period”.

Unilever joined several brands that decided to stop advertising on Facebook, believing that the social networking giant had not sufficiently combated hate speech and incitement to violence.

Facebook on Friday announced it would ban “broader categories of hostile content” from ads on its platform.
