Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, said the following in an interview with eurogamer:
We believe this is a big step for Blizzard and the entire World of Warcraft community. […] The gamer community is increasingly leaning towards mobile video games, so the most sensible thing to do is focus development in this direction. […] We believe that this version of World of Warcraft is going to be much better and more interactive than the PC version, so from the launch of World of Warcraft: Immortal we will abandon the development of the retail version of the original. We know this is a controversial decision, but we hope the community will embrace it and enjoy our new release.
Additionally, Blizzard has confirmed that there will be micropayments in the game, where higher-level items can be purchased for a currency called “Gems of Azeroth”, which can be purchased for real money in the in-game store. The game will have ads, but they can be removed by paying a monthly fee of 1200 Azeroth gems, which is equivalent to about € 10.

It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi has already launched a promotional campaign for this video game in China, where as of January 1, 2021, the special limited version of its Redmi Note 8 Pro version World of Warcraft: Immortal can be purchased in its stores for a few € 899.
