Asteroid 2013 WV44: Massive Near-Earth Object Passing Dangerously Close

A massive asteroid will pass by the Earth on Wednesday. It is supposed to be huge, about the size of 10 buses. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) warned about it, and even included it in the list of potentially dangerous objects for our planet.

Asteroid 2013 WV44 will fly by Earth on Wednesday, June 28 at a speed of 11.8 kilometers per second. That’s roughly 34 times faster than the speed of sound. According to experts, it will also be very close to our planet. It will approach at a distance of approximately 3.3 million kilometers, the portal reported Firstpost.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration classified the object as potentially dangerous. However, the office assured that the asteroid should miss the Earth. So there is no risk of collision. Even so, experts are watching him closely in case he changes his direction.

“Most near-Earth objects pose no danger. But scientists are developing various warning systems and diversion tactics in case an asteroid ever finds itself in orbit that could threaten us,” the website quoted The Independent experts.

Astronomers estimate that asteroid 2013 WV44 measures 160 meters in diameter. It is bigger than 10 buses in a row, writes the portal Daily Mail. The object was registered by NASA for the first time in 2013, as can already be seen from its name.
