The draft regulations will enter into force on July 1.
The Minister of Justice Jānis Bordāns (JKP) pointed out that this step is necessary to have a preventive effect on the abuser, correcting his violent behavior habits, reducing cases of domestic violence and preventing the risk of someone becoming a victim of violence.
The abusive person will have to attend the courses at the social rehabilitation institution specified in the court decision. In the event that the perpetrator does not fulfill his or her obligations under the law, criminal liability will be imposed.
An application may be submitted to the court by a victim of violence or an orphan’s court if the child’s parent or guardian has not submitted an application due to objective reasons. It can also be submitted through the police.
