The new virus is called G4 and is genetically derived from H1N1, which caused a pandemic in 2009. Researchers from Chinese universities and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention point out that this new virus has all the properties that make it easily contagious to humans.
Between 2011 and 2018, researchers took more than 30,000 nasal tissue samples from abattoirs in Chinese provinces. The obtained data allowed to differentiate 179 swine influenza viruses.
