New Truck Ban on D1 Highway Coming in June: What Drivers Need to Know

Installation of all signs should be completed by the end of May. First, ŘSD talked about the fact that they would like to sign the rest of D1 already in April. The ban will come into effect as the provider uses the signs.

From June, the ban on trucks passing the D1 will apply to the entire section from kilometer 21 to kilometer 230, said Jan Rýdl, spokesman for the ŘSD.

“The ban applies to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. It means that this is not just about trucks. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes will only be allowed to pass in sections where there are three lanes in one direction, which mostly relate to climbing. Otherwise, they have to drive in the slow lane,” said Rýdl.

According to him, the aim is not to harass drivers. “But we want smooth traffic on the highway, which is an important artery for European transport,” said Rýdl.

For violating the ban, the police can impose a fine of up to 5,500 crowns and the driver will receive six penalty points. Since January, police officers from the highway traffic department in Velký Beranov have fined 757 for proceedings for 3.5 million crowns.

It is also planned to ban trucks from passing sections of the D2, D8 and D11 highways, especially near Prague.

The Car Transporters Association does not like the broad extension of the ban, preferring to welcome variable signals so that the ban only applies in case of more traffic or worse weather conditions.
