Marcos Freitas was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Olympic table tennis tournament. The Portuguese was defeated by the Chinese Fan Zhendong (1-4), current leader of the world hierarchy.
Currently ranked 24th in the ranking, Marcos Freitas conceded the first partials (6-11, 6-11 and 2-11), managed to recover in the third (11-4) and ended up giving up in the fourth (3-11). All in all, the Portuguese finishes the singulars test in ninth place.
Remember that Portugal will still have a team in evidence in the men’s team tournament. Tiago Apolónia, João Monteiro and Marcos Freitas make up the team that will face Germany, current European champions.
