Corona pandemic: one million vaccinations reached

In Germany, more than a million people have been vaccinated against Corona. This is evident from the RKI figures. In terms of vaccination rates, the northeast is ahead.

Even if only a small amount of vaccine is available so far, the number of Germans vaccinated is steadily increasing. Over a million people have now been given a vaccine. That comes from figures from the Robert Koch Institute. Accordingly, 1,048,160 vaccinations had been administered by January 15, the vaccination rate rose to 1.26 percent. So far, the first of two vaccine doses has been injected almost exclusively. On Friday, some people in a nursing home in Halberstadt in Saxony-Anhalt received the second dose for the first time.

According to the RKI data, around half of the people have so far been vaccinated for professional reasons. This could be, for example, doctors and nurses with a very high risk of infection and staff in the care of the elderly. Most of the others were vaccinated because of their age or because they live in a nursing home.

Most of the vaccinations were made in Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia. However, a look at the rate of vaccinated persons per 1000 inhabitants shows a different picture: In terms of the so-called vaccination rate, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is at 2.34 percent ahead of Schleswig-Holstein at 1.92 percent. Baden-Württemberg comes in last with a rate of 0.90 percent, behind Thuringia with 1.03 percent.

BioNTech / Pfizer vaccinations are getting easier

So far, the preparations from two manufacturers have been used in Germany: BioNTech / Pfizer and Moderna. Now it became known: The administration of the German-American active ingredient could become easier in the future. As can be seen from BioNTech’s updated recommendations for action, the preparation can also be transported as a finished dose in the syringe for up to six hours at 2 to 8 degrees.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn spoke of good news, especially for those in need of care who are waiting at home for a vaccination. The countries could now organize more flexibly. “The fact that finished vaccination doses in syringes can in future be prepared for transport in the vaccination centers is a very practical help in the fight against the pandemic,” Spahn told the dpa news agency.

Elderly death – unrelated to vaccination

After a vaccination in Weyhe near Bremen, Lower Saxony, a 90-year-old died on Wednesday. However, forensic doctors could not determine any connection with the vaccination during the autopsy. A final assessment by the Paul Ehrlich Institute remains to be seen, however, announced the district of Diepholz. The resident of a nursing home died on Wednesday about an hour after the vaccination. She had been vaccinated with the active ingredient from BioNTech / Pfizer.
