Xbox Live is now called Xbox Network. Network still sounds a little better

Xbox Live was introduced in conjunction with the original console’s release in 2002 and it seems time to say goodbye to Live. At least the name. Microsoft will rename the online service to Network and there do not seem to be any major changes than that at the moment. According to Microsoft, this is done to differentiate the online service with the Xbox Live Gold subscription. More specifically, a Microsoft representative said this:

“’Xbox network’ refers to the underlying Xbox online service, which was updated in the Microsoft Services Agreement. The update from ‘Xbox Live’ to ‘Xbox network’ is intended to distinguish the underlying service from Xbox Live Gold memberships.”

Microsoft still has plans to stir the Xbox Live Gold pot. Among other things, the company is expected to drop the subscription requirements to play free games like Fortnite online, but when this will happen is currently unknown. Something we will not see for a while yet is the price increase on Live Gold subscription, as this went straight to fanders when Microsoft talked about it last.
