From March 16, compulsory schooling in public schools and vocational schools in Saxony will be suspended. However, the facilities remain open and the educators are also present to ensure childcare for all students, according to Minister of Education Christian Piwarz. During the course of the week, a decision will be made as to when schools and daycare centers will close completely by April 17th. With this transitional arrangement, the ministry claims to give parents the opportunity to organize home care for their children. Free schools can decide for themselves whether to suspend compulsory schooling.
There will then be emergency care for the children of parents in relevant professions. Prime Minister Kretschmer had already mentioned relevant professions in a press conference: care, medicine, police, waterworks, bus and train companies and the media.
