US Embassy in Russia warns Americans to “avoid crowds”

According to The Guardian, the recommendations mark a further deterioration in US-Russia relations, which some observers have already called a new Cold War.

Sunday on the embassy website “According to media sources, there have been threats to attack shopping malls, railway and metro stations and other public gatherings in major urban areas, including Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as in areas of heightened tension on Russia’s border with Ukraine.”

The US Embassy has also published recommended actions that citizens in Russia should take, including keeping up to date with the local media, avoiding crowds, exploring the area, and being wary of places where Westerners congregate.

“Carry an identity document, including a US passport with a current Russian visa,” said one of the points.
“Develop an evacuation plan without the help of the U.S. government.”

According to Reuters, a spokeswoman for Russia’s foreign ministry, Maria Zakharov, said the US had handed over the information to Russia about possible attacks. “And if not, how to understand it all?” said Sakharov.

As you know, Russia has concentrated more than 150,000 troops on the Ukrainian border. U.S. President Joe Biden said on Friday that Russia’s President Putin had decided to invade Ukraine, citing intelligence.

Meanwhile, the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that Russia is preparing for the biggest war in Europe since 1945, as it prepares to invade Ukraine.
