‘First of its kind’: Triple Star System Detected by Astronomers in Space / WION NEWS
JAKARTA, kilat.com- The Universe has continuous celestial processes that are sometimes beyond our imagination and scientific understanding. As science advances, new techniques are developed and something previously unknown becomes clear.
Now, because of research conducted at a university in Mexico, we now know how to determine if a planet revolves around bintang dead binary. Dr. Carlos Chavez, of the Universidad Autonoma De Nuevo León in Mexico is the lead author of the study.
The focus of the research is Cataclysmic Variables (CVs), a type of binary star that is so close to each other that larger stars pull matter from smaller ones as they spin around each other.
In CV, the larger (primary) star is generally a white dwarf while the smaller (donor) star is a red dwarf. the main star takes material from the donor star.
When matter is pulled in, it forms a hot disk around the star called an ‘accretion disk’.

In such a binary star system, there is a point of gravitational equilibrium. This is called the Lagrangian Point.
If a planet is present in this star system, it causes oscillations at the Lagrangian Point. This, in turn, causes changes in the luminosity of the star system. The researchers say that by detecting changes in luminosity, it can be determined whether a planet exists or not.
