Only 4 months old, baby Timofey died in his home together with his mother Anna, who held him in her arms until the end. They are the victims of a Russian attack in which a drone destroyed a multi-story apartment building in Odessa on the night of March 2.
There are already 10 dead, among them are 3 children – Timofey, 3-year-old Mark and a 7-month-old girl. Rescue operations have been going on around the clock. Sunday was declared a day of mourning.

On the second floor of the dilapidated building lived the family of the Bessarabian Bulgarian Sergey Gaydarzhi. At the time of the cruel strike, carried out with the Iranian drone “Shaheed”, the man was sleeping with his daughter in one of the rooms. And his 31-year-old wife Anna was with their 4-month-old son Timofey in the other room.
When he felt the explosion, Sergey reacted in a flash to save his little daughter – he quickly carried her out and returned to his wife and son. Rescuers later found the bodies. Little Timofey was tightly nestled in his mother. Mykola Kuleba, the former presidential commissioner for children’s rights of Ukraine said that the bodies and faces of
the victims are were “terrible mutilated”
The Gaidarji family is known to have been very religious – Anna is the daughter of the pastor of the Baptist church. According to the Odesa Regional Association of Churches, Sergei and his daughter miraculously survived.
News of the slain children saddened Ukrainians, who left toys and flowers near the ruins throughout the day. A video from October showing Anna’s discharge with her newborn son has gone viral on social media. Among the dead are military personnel Oleg and Tatyana Kravets along with their daughter.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that this tragedy could have been prevented if the arms deliveries had not been delayed. He added that the Russian attack “makes no sense from a military strategic point of view” and its purpose is only to sow death and fear.
