To mom, the boy will save Sofia

Young Boris continues to strain

left-wing liberals with right-wing self-awareness

A great event from the Berlin Exhibition Center! I am passing it on as the eyewitnesses tell it.

At the end of September, the world trade fair InnoTrans takes place in the German capital, where the most modern transport technologies are displayed. More than 2,800 companies from 56 countries are participating.

A large Bulgarian delegation approaches the stand of a large Austrian company that manufactures machines for maintenance and laying of railway tracks. One of the men introduced himself to the traders as Boris Bonev, “the next mayor of Sofia”. He states that he has ambitious plans for the reconstruction of public transportation, and because he has heard that this company is the best in the industry, he intends to buy their machines.

Here it is important to clarify that the deadline for the production of the machines that Bonev is interested in is 3 years, which leads to the conclusion that the candidate-mayor relies not only on winning the local elections next year (2023), but also the next ones.

“Fuklio”, some say. “An ambitious young man,” others admire. Undoubtedly, the municipal councilor and leader of the new “Save Sofia” party acts dramatically on the “city right”, irritating far and wide. These days, two politicians have apologized to him for their hasty, compromising claims that he is the grandson of Stanish Bonev, a communist of the old nomenclature. First was Toma Bikov from GERB, followed by MEP Alexander Yordanov. Both admitted that they had been misled by a false claim by a well-known blogger.

Bonev’s irritating self-confidence and tireless ambition also caused turmoil in 2019, when supporters of “Democratic Bulgaria” in the capital split, dividing their affection between Bonev and the alternative candidate Ignatov. This led them to the shameful precedent of voting for the red Maya Manolova in the second round.

And yet time shows that 5 years ago, Bonev simply provoked the already misanthropic essence of this stratum – in the presidential elections in 2021, it again did not reach a consensus, the energy died down and in the end the same voters again supported the socialist favorite .

Today, faced with yet another intensified electoral challenge, the “urban right” is angry with itself, blaming the whole world for the missed opportunities, the betrayal of its own candidate, Lozan Panov, and the rise of Rumen Radev.

The fights over Bonev in 2019 were attractive and extremely ugly on the part of the “smart and beautiful”. Then behind the candidacy of the ambitious savior of Sofia stood the scandalous publicist Ivet Dobromirova, who got into a violent Facebook clash with DB influencers supporting the unknown architect from Varna Borislav Ignatov. Ugly mutual insults flew, spit and mud flew. Much to DB’s regret, it turned out in the end that Bonev, regardless of his contradictory nature and grandiosity, was a strong bet – he came in fourth place. Only the annoying fact that he was supported by a citizen’s committee and not a party structure prevented him from taking control of the Metropolitan Municipal Council.

During his tenure, the young Boris continued to strain left-liberals with a right-wing self-awareness, fighting for offensive solutions in favor of urban traffic, such as banning cars in the center, building new tram lines to remote areas instead of the metro, increasing the price of public transport tickets .

But the most disturbing circumstance surrounding this single-minded and logorrhea-suffering personality is his position on Ukraine. Boris Bonev confidently states in unison with Rumen Radev: “Crimea is Russian”, raising an avalanche of indignation and contempt.

During the previous election campaign, he appeared in the media with his mother, with whom he lives. With her, they immersed themselves in fascinating conversations about family values and the priceless trust through which successful people are built. Now there is no aspect of Boris Bonev’s vision or character that is not cruelly ridiculed and attacked, some media even go as far as openly xenophobic hints in their headlines.

However, “Mama’s boy” remains unperturbed and self-confident to such an extent that today he condescendingly offers DB a coalition with “Save Sofia”. With the same arrogance with which Kiril Petkov offers Hristo Ivanov to blindly follow him on his victorious path.

Terrible scandals await us.
