The United States declares five Chinese telecommunications companies a security threat

These companies include Hytera Communications, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and Dahua Technology, as well as major smartphone manufacturers and network equipment suppliers Huawei and ZTE. The last two were previously subject to US sanctions.

“This list is a big step in restoring confidence in our communications networks,” said Jessica Rosenworseel, the FCC’s chief executive.

“More than ever, Americans rely on our networks to work, study at school, or access health care, and we need to trust that these communications are secure.”

“This list provides meaningful advice that will ensure that next-generation networking in the country does not repeat the mistakes of the past and does not use equipment or services that pose a threat to U.S. national security or American security.”
