According to the politician, the pro-Russian narrative is not disappearing in the minds of prominent Europeans because “the trenches were very deep”. However, the situation must change, as the Russian regime clearly underlines that it is fighting against Europe and that its goal is to destroy the European model of society, the deputy underlined.
The French politician admitted that the Baltic states had long warned Western Europe of Russia’s threat, but lacked listening ears. Until now, some Europeans have not heard the threat from Russia, so now they are not prepared enough for the situation and are surprised that Putin’s regime is behind various information manipulation operations.
He sees several problems as a result of which Europe is responding inadequately to the situations and threats posed by Russia. For example, many people in the West think that you can play chess with the ruling regime in Russia, but the reality is that the leader of the regime comes and ignores any rules, kicks the chessboard in the air and says: “F*k you !”
Glucksman thinks that in the West it is very difficult to understand Russia and Putin’s regime, because everyone wants to think that he is somehow rational and seeks material benefits, but in reality the goal of the Russian regime’s actions is often just chaos.
As another problem, the politician sees the fact that Europe is defeating Russia at home in the propaganda war, but the same cannot be said for the rest of the world, where the narrative is often lost in the battle with the Russian regime. According to him, the EU needs a more aggressive policy to spread “its message” around the world.
According to Glucksman, Russian intelligence operations and the problems they cause are present in all EU countries, but the question is how much each of them is aware of them. According to him, various EU structures and even individual countries know a lot about Russia’s influence, but there is a lack of mutual cooperation, so there is no effective exposure of Russia’s activities.
It also needs to be recognized that the EU is not unified and that different countries have different interests, which hinders more effective countermeasures.
On the other hand, another French deputy, Natalia Louiso (Renew), expressed the opinion that the mistake of the West turned out to be the assumption that after the collapse of the USSR a “completely new history” would begin ” with a new Russia , with which it is possible to cooperate in business, through which it would become more and more “normal and normal”. “It turned out to be a mistake,” admitted the politician.
In his opinion, Russia must be completely defeated and thus weakened in the ongoing war, because only then does he see the possibility of democracy entering this country. At the same time, a revolution must take place in the minds of European citizens so that the illusions about Russia and China disappear.
On the other hand, according to the politician’s vision, the EU should be the “second military power in the world”, but it is not, because the countries do not cooperate enough and are not efficient enough in joint action, therefore, the main the burden of helping Ukraine in the war rests with the United States.
