The Geostrategic Mistake of the War in Ukraine: Insights from the Most High and Pope Francis

From the perspective of the Most High, the war in Ukraine is a major geostrategic mistake

One thing must be said about Pope Francis – he likes to make news. Years ago, he made believers swallow their tongues when he said that homosexuals could also go to heaven. A Vatican spokesman later clarified that the pontiff had been misunderstood.

After that, the Pope opened the gates of heaven for atheists as well – as long as they live more godly, why not save their souls? The speaker again smoothed over the wrong impression.

But last week the Pope recommended Ukrainian President Zelensky to raise the white flag:

I believe that the strongest are those who see the situation, think about the people and have the courage to raise the white flag and negotiate.

The Vatican spokesman had to explain again what the Pope wanted to say. But whose word is stronger – the Pope’s or some Vatican scribe? Some claim that God himself speaks through the mouth of the pontiff, others – that the secret world government speaks.

In both cases the Pope knows what the common people do not

His every word is a sign from above. But in addition to the Pope’s words, another sign of peace appeared – Victoria Newland, the main producer of the Ukrainian war, resigned from the post of US Deputy Secretary of State. Newland is the lady who was framing the future government of Ukraine while she was feeding the participants of the Kyiv Maidan in 2014. The foreign ministers of Germany, France and Italy tried to negotiate a peaceful and democratic change of power, but it failed and went down in history of the elegant prose with the phrase Fuck the EU.

Prophetic words – 10 years later the EU is totally fucked. By the way, the Pope’s earlier words also proved to be prophetic – not long ago, the Catholic Church allowed same-sex marriages. This cannot happen without God’s intervention.

But back to Newland. Days before she resigned, she

arrived in Kiev to attend the change of commander-in-chief

The previous one, General Valery Zaluzhny, had started publishing articles and giving interviews that expressed doubts about the victory. The army was overtired, the ammunition was short, the strategy was wrong, it was time to negotiate for peace.

The new commander-in-chief, General Oleksandr Sirski, is not in the habit of giving public statements. If they give him instructions – he trumps and executes. Alas, just after taking command, the fortress of Avdeevka fell, and Newland returned to Washington and resigned.

This, in my opinion, is a serious omen, since

Newland was the architect of Eastern European policy

of the USA under both Obama and Biden. She was a continuation of the line of President Bush Jr. Now that she is resigning, we have a new concept.

According to Professor John Mearsheimer, a representative of the realist school of geopolitics, the attempt to bring Ukraine into NATO and change the regime in Russia is a huge geostrategic mistake. On the contrary, Russia should be an ally or at least a neutral player in the great battle with China. Had not these thoughts of Mearsheimer reached the ears of Uncle Sam?

If Putin had fallen and if Moscow had raised the white flag, if it had accepted the management of Western companies and foundations, Newland’s policy would have been a great success. But the opposite happened. Putin’s power solidified, the country began to militarize and even nationalized part of the machine-building industry. It reeks of Stalinism.

And what happened? It turned out that Russia is already in the arms of China – the new great rival of the USA in the struggle for global hegemony. Even if it is not an empire, Russia is already a “proxy” of a much larger and more dangerous empire for the United States.

Since the Second World War, Russia and the USA have always fought through “proxies”. Such was the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Towards the end, China also joined in the role of “proxy”, sending about half a million soldiers. The Vietnam War (1954-1975) was also a proxy war. As well as the Afghan one (1979-1989), but in it Russia was already at war with its own fighters, there was no proxy.

And how should we look at the Ukrainian war? If we assume that Ukraine is a proxy of the USA, then

Russia itself is already a proxy – a proxy of China

Slave to its cold war geostrategic instincts, Washington began to feel a little late that it was in fact giving its most serious rival the largest raw material base on the planet. All the gas, oil, coal, timber, ore and other riches of Siberia are now Beijing’s backyard. Their path to the West is now blocked.

On top of that, the war in Ukraine has created an alternative global organization that is dangerously expanding to encompass virtually the entire Third World, as it was called in the past. The West against the whole world is a very losing position. In the 1980s, the USSR was successfully isolated and raised a white flag because it lacked a number of leading technologies, most notably computer chips. Today, however, China is a technological leader on a par with the US, and South Korea and Taiwan are also very close, they simply cannot isolate themselves from trade and cooperation in their own geographical area.

It could be said that Newland brilliantly executed Halford Mackinder’s programme,

the great British geopolitician and author of The Geographical Axis of History, a seminal report on British geostrategy in 1904. At that time, this axis was Eastern Europe and especially Poland and Ukraine. Whoever rules Eastern Europe, writes Mackinder, also rules the Heartland (the Eurasian mainland). Whoever rules the Heartland also rules the World Island, and by extension the entire world. (“The Geographical Axis of History”* was recently translated into Bulgarian and can be found in bookstores.)

But that was in 1904. Heartland is one thing, in 2024 it’s completely different. In Mackinder’s time, Poland and Ukraine were at his center, as China carried almost no weight. Today, the territories to the east and south of the Urals weigh industrially, commercially and militarily at least 5 times more than the territories to the west. The decline of Europe pushed the geographic axis of history further east.

Let’s say the new geographic axis is the Urals. Then turning Eastern Europe into anti-Russia is a huge and perhaps fatal geostrategic and psychohistorical mistake.

Here, perhaps this is what the Most High means when he whispers something to his earthly representative – the Pope. Or maybe this is the new opinion of the secret world government.

Otherwise, things are clear here on earth – glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!
