The Czechia is starting to switch off the 3G network, people with older phones will lose the Internet

This year, the Czech Republic is starting to shut down 3G networks, which will replace modern 5G networks. This will significantly speed up your internet connection. The old technology was able to transfer 10 megabits per second, the new one can handle 1000.

For owners of older models, however, this means that they will have to buy a new device. Otherwise, the Internet will stop working on their mobile phones. These are phones that are over eight years old.

“Users of older devices will be informed in advance by their operator, they will be offered a SIM card replacement and possibly a more modern phone supporting 4G or 5G technology,” Jiří Grund, director of the Association of Mobile Network Operators, assured.

SOME OF THE PHONES TO BE REPLACED:

iPhone: iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S

Samsung: Samsung Galaxy (SCH-R530, SCH-R830, SCH-R970C, SCH-S968, SM-N900, SPH-L710, SPH-L720T), Samsung B2100, Samsung B2700, Samsung B5702, Samsung CHAT 357, Samsung CORBY 2 GT-S3850 a starší

Huawei: HUAWEI Ascend Y530, Huawei Ascend Y511, HUAWEI Ascend Y330, HUAWEI Ascend Y300, HUAWEI Ascend Y200, HUAWEI ALE-TL00 a starší

Nokia: Nokia 210 Asha, Nokia 700 RM-670, Nokia 520 Lumia and older

Sony: SONY C1505 – Xperia E, SONY C1605 – Xperia E dual, SONY C6802, XL39h a starší

It is said that there are few people with such old phones. According to Grund, most Czechs will not notice the change at all, because their device uses a 4G network, sometimes called LTE, or the latest 5G. Some operators have been testing it since last summer. Vodafone was the first to announce its intention to turn off 3G (we wrote here).

“Transmitters will be replaced or retuned gradually. Each operator, as soon as it is up to date for its customers, will present its own independent recovery schedule and will inform customers who may be affected by the change.” Grund explained.

Turning off the 3G network does not affect telephony or text messaging. Their operation in the Czech Republic is ensured by an even older 2G network, the replacement of which is not planned.

The replacement of the 3G network with the latest technology will also start this year in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and other countries around the world. The replacement should be completed next year.
