Jorge Monteiro, 33, is one of the players with the longest curriculum at Leça, having challenged his happiness for many years in countries like Greece and Cyprus. Formed at FC Porto and with relevance gained in the youth teams alongside Castro, Ukra or Rui Pedro, Monteiro was always a winger with fruitful ingenuity in imbalances.
In a conversation with A BOLA about the Portuguese Cup qualifier with Sporting, this Tuesday, he was incredulous and critical of the transfer of the game to Paços de Ferreira in a federative deliberation.
“It is something that steals the beauty of the Cup. Whoever organizes this competition should feel more proud of what we were able to do and where we were able to get, they should want and do everything to make it play in Leça. They should have thought of the city, of the joy of the fans for this moment. It would be a historic day for the Portuguese Cup, people would experience the game much more and our streets would be more beautified. This distorts what the Cup is, they understood that and of course it favors Sporting. I would like the people in charge to put themselves in our shoes and feel our frustration for not playing in Leça, after what was done and conquered by us. They had an obligation to help a fourth-tier team but it seems that all competitions are made for the big ones», he insists.
