Barcelona are in the market looking for a left-back and Alejandro Grimaldo is one of the names on the Catalans’ list. The Catalan newspaper Sport reports this Thursday that Benfica is open to negotiations, namely with the possibility of a loan with mandatory purchase option, but also receiving players in exchange.
The 26-year-old player has a contract with Benfica until June 2023 and a release clause set at 60 million euros. If they do not proceed with the contract renewal, Benfica runs the risk of losing Grimaldo at zero cost from January of next year.
Given this scenario, Sport points out that those responsible incarnate will have shown openness to negotiate, namely the possibility of a loan with mandatory purchase option, also opening the door to receive in exchange a player from Barcelona’s staff. In this sense, the names of Óscar Mingueza, Riqui Puig and also Alex Baldé, the latter represented by Jorge Mendes, are mentioned.
It is guaranteed that the talks are in progress, keeping the possibility if they are closed until next Monday, the date of the transfer market close. Even because Grimaldo, trained at Barcelona, will be fully available to return to the blaugrana club.
