Two of the main candidates to win the Portuguese Cup, FC Porto and Benfica, qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Alenquer and Benfica, 10-7 (2-4 at half-time), and Valongo, 5-1 (3-0).
FC Porto’s victory at the II Division opponent’s home had exciting contours, as they were trailing by 3-7 with 10 minutes left in the end of regulation time, they scored four goals before drawing and the remaining three in extra time. Alenquer and Benfica, who had already eliminated two other teams from the I Division, Marihense and HC Braga, commanded the scoreboard from the first seconds, when Mário Rodrigues opened the scoring. He was the top scorer of the host club, with four goals, only surpassed by the five from FC Porto Di Benedetto.
Benfica, on the other hand, eliminated a rival from the I Division, Valongo, with whom they will play again next Wednesday, also at Estádio da Luz, this time for the National of the I Division. Under the baton of Carlos Nicolía, who opened the scoring, Pablo Alvarez (2-0 and 4-0), Lucas Ordoñez and Diogo Rafael also scored. Diogo Barata reduced in the last minute.
Also noteworthy was the big victory of SC Tomar at the home of a team from the III Division, CENAP, by 2-13, in a later stage of the Portuguese Cup, the 16th finals.
