Gérard Depardieu: Allegations of Sexual Assault and Rape Resurface

Depardieu spent most of Monday in police custody. The screen star was questioned at the 3rd police district. Two women say he touched them while filming Jean-Pierre Mocky’s 2014 film and Jean Becker’s 2021 film, writes the newspaper Le Parisien.

The Paris prosecutor’s office announced this evening that Depardieu is to appear in court in October this year. “At the end of his detention in the third police judicial district, Gérard Depardieu received a summons to the criminal court,” the prosecutor’s office announced.

In the case of the first attack, a former assistant filed a criminal complaint against Depardieu for “sexual assault on a vulnerable person by a person who abused the authority of his position”.

She was 24 years old at the time of the alleged crime. In an interview with the media, she said that the actor “put his hands all over her body in 2014”. She also said that the behavior still “bothers” her.

The next attack was supposed to take place in September 2021, and the woman was supposed to work as a set designer on the film. She filed a complaint against the actor for sexual assault, sexual harassment and sexual insult. She claims that Gérard Depardieu grabbed her violently and kneaded her thigh, stomach and gradually reached her chest.

He reportedly told her “I’m going to put my … in your chu…y”, BFM TV reported. The woman claims that she felt trapped and that she got free from it only thanks to the intervention of a third party. According to her, the film crew made him apologize, which he said by saying, “I’m sorry because I have to apologize…” He reportedly called her a “slut” until the end of the filmed.

The two revelations are just part of a long list of allegations facing the film’s star.

As of December 2020, Depardieu is under investigation for rape and sexual assault of actress Charlotte Arnould. Another criminal complaint was filed by actress Hélène Darras, for sexual assault that should have occurred in 2007, but this case was dismissed due to the statute of limitations.

The actor is also facing sex scandals abroad. Journalist and writer Ruth Baza has filed a criminal complaint in Spain about the alleged rape that took place in October 1995 in Paris. Several other women accused the actor of sexual violence and sexual harassment while filming movies or series.
