Switzerland loses to Germany | Sports at home/abroad

National team – After the two wins against France, the Swiss suffer their first defeat in preparation for the World Cup. Coach Patrick Fischer’s team lost 4-2 to Germany in Rosenheim.

In the 49th minute, the Swiss fell 2:3 behind for the first time in the game after a goal by Danjo Leonhardt. As a result, they found no recipe against the now compact Germans, and after replacing goalie Philip Wüthrich with a sixth field player, Daniel Schmölz scored 58 seconds before the end of the empty goal to make the final score. The Swiss lost to their arch-rivals for the third time in a row, for the second time this season after the 3-0 loss at the Germany Cup in Krefeld last November.

It was anything but a compelling defeat. After 40 minutes the guests should have led, instead it was 2:2. The 1-0 was scored in the 23rd minute by Geneva striker Marco Miranda, who had scored in the first friendly against France the week before. The goal was preceded by a poor substitution by Germany, which 20-year-old defender Noah Delémont capitalized on with a long pass that made it 2-0. At 2: 1 (32nd) Christoph Bertschy expressed happiness. His shot ricocheted off the rink in front of the goal, whereupon German keeper Niklas Treutle maneuvered the puck into his own goal.

The Swiss goalkeeper Melvin Nyffeler did not look good in the two goals of the locals. At 1:1 (25th) Stefan Loibl defeated him from a tight angle, the 2:2 (38th) was a durable shot by Alexander Karachun from the blue line. Nyffeler was replaced by Wüthrich in the last third.

The Swiss had the Germans well under control in the first two thirds with a few exceptions, the hosts had trouble with the speed of the ice comrades. In the first half, the Swiss missed several very good chances, the first in the first minute when Damien Riat failed solo in front of Treutle. In the 13th minute, Nando Eggenberger, alone in front of Treutle, failed to get the puck in the goal. In the last section, Dominik Egli (44th) shot from the best position with little precision. It paid off.

“I’m very happy with the first 40 minutes. We created chances with a quick transition game and were good on the defensive,” said Fischer. We should have made up the difference by then, but the killer instinct was missing. “The 3-2 gave the Germans some breathing room.” On Saturday, the Swiss will have the opportunity to take revenge and then meet Germany again at the same venue.
