POPULATE AIRLINES (Reuters) – Pope Francis said Thursday that it is morally justifiable for countries to provide weapons to defend Ukraine from Russian aggression.

He told reporters on the return flight from Kazakhstan, where he had spent three days visiting the conference of religious leaders. On the other hand, he invited Ukraine to accept a final, even if difficult, dialogue.

During the 45-minute press conference, when asked whether it was ethically right for a country to supply arms to Ukraine, he said: “This is a political decision and, if taken in moral conditions, it is morally wrong. Accepted,” He answered.

He also delved into the “jihadism” of the Catholic Church, which recognizes the use of weapons to defend against aggressors, saying: “Self-defense is both legal and an expression of patriotism.”
