Sporting announced yesterday the renewal of Filipe Çelikkaya until 2024, that is, the 38-year-old coach is preparing to take charge of the B team for the fourth consecutive year.
To Sporting TV, the coach expressed his satisfaction. «It is the recognition by the Board of Directors of the work that we have been developing and of the daily rigor that we have placed in our profession, in addition to the way in which we develop the players. This was fundamental for this extension of the contract to exist for another year. We want to continue to promote players within the structure and make connections with the high-income sector. Things have happened naturally, with a lot of work during these seasons, and we’ve had a lot of players showing up in the first team and in the youth teams. We want to continue to follow this path, as it is the future of Sporting that is at stake», stressed Çelikkaya, who in his debut season in the ‘Bês’ reached the promotion of the Portuguese Championship to Liga 3 and already in 2022/2023 took the under-19s to the inaugural UEFA Youth League Final Four.
«Last season we used 34 players, 14 of them juniors. They are very young players, who still have a way to go, but they are more mature and competent. We want to do well in Liga 3, without forgetting that this transition space is always very difficult. We want to place these players at the highest level of Portuguese football, especially in the A team. This is what we have been doing and we must value the work that young people have been doing and remain focused on following this path. It has been very good for the future of the club », he said.
