Sesks wins the first WRC Estonia stage junior class in history; Tenaks triumphs in the overall standings

The first WRC stage in history in Estonia ended on Sunday with six stages. The leader of the JWRC class before the last day was the host Robert Virves, who was 11.2 seconds ahead of Sesca.

Before the 14th of the 17 stages, Virvesa’s crew overcame Seska for 5.3 seconds, but in the third “dopa” of the day, the tire of the Estonian vehicle broke. Sesks then took the lead, which he protected until the finish of the rally. Liepāja is the first Latvian to win the JWRC stage.

The second place in this class was won by the Finn Sami Pajari, who lost 14.7 seconds to Seskam, and the third was Virves with a deficit of 37.8 seconds. Sesks won three of the 17 “dopis” this weekend, enough to win.

In this class, all athletes start with Ford Fiesta vehicles.

In the overall standings, the hosts were delighted by Tenaks (“Hyundai”), who will start with co-driver Martin Jerveoy. Tenaka’s crew was in the lead from the third stage, overtaking his teammate Craig Brin by 22.2 seconds. The third place was won by Sebastian Ojier from France, representing the Toyota team, who lost 26.9 seconds to the Estonian.

The fifth place was won by the two-time Latvian champion Kalle Rovanpere from Finland (“Toyota”), but in the WRC3 class another local champion winner – Ulivers Sulbergs from Norway (“Volkswagen”), who exchanged the Latvian license for starting under the motherland’s Swedish flag, triumphed.

Sesks took the 28th place in the overall classification, but Sulberg was ninth.

The WRC stage in Estonia was the fourth stage of the season and the first after a break of almost six months. Latvia also had the opportunity to host the WRC stage this summer, but for various reasons the fight for the prestigious competition was not continued.

The junior stage in Estonia was the second race of the WRC season in this classification. In the first stage of the season, Sesks and Francis won the second place, yielding only to the Swedish Tom Christenson, who left Estonia this weekend. This year, the stage of the World Junior Championship is also planned in Sardinia (October 8-11).

Last year, Sesk had his debut year in the World Junior Championship in a Ford Fiesta R2. In JWRC class in 25 stages Seska’s crew managed to finish in the top three, in the stages they won three rallies.

The leader in the overall standings of the World Championships after four stages is Ozie, who has scored 79 points, followed by Britain Elfins Evans (Toyota), who was fourth this weekend, and Tena is in third place with 66 points. There are currently three more stages in the calendar.
