Rare fungal infection in Kovid Muktars; Vision loss and cause of death

New Delhi: Doctors have found a rare and dangerous fungal infection in people suffering from Kovid disease. According to ENT surgeons at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi, many patients are suffering from mycorrhizal disease, which can lead to vision loss and even death.

In the last 15 days, 13 such patients have been admitted to the hospital. Of these, 5 patients died. Five were in critical condition. About 50 percent lost their sight. In addition to vision loss, there is also the loss of the nose and jaw.

Mycomycosis, also known as black fungus, is a rare disease caused by a type of fungus called mucormycetes around us. It mainly affects people with health problems and those who are taking drugs that weaken the body’s immune system.

This killer fungal infection often occurs in immunocompromised patients during organ transplants and in the intensive care unit. However, the occurrence of this fungus in association with Kovid causes panic.

Varun Rai, ENT surgeon at Gangaram Hospital, said that patients with and without symptoms of nasal congestion, swelling of the eyes and cheeks and black dry crust on the nose should undergo biopsy and anti-fungal therapy immediately. Doctors added that the patient could be saved if the presence of the fungus could be detected early
