They elected representatives of public and private universities before a special commission that will appoint members of the JNJ

The electoral process took place completely normally, in a public event, in the facilities of the electoral body and began simultaneously.

The rectors of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Jeri Gloria Ramón Ruffner de Vega (12 votes) and of the Universidad Ricardo Palma, Segundo Felix Romero Revilla (7 votes), were elected representatives of the public and private universities, respectively, before the Special Commission in charge of the merit contest for the election of members of the National Board of Justice.

Along with them, the rectors of the Jorge Basadre Grohmann National University, Javier Lozano Marreros (4 votes) and the San Martín de Porres University, José Antonio Chang Escobedo (1 vote), respectively, were also named as substitute members. In the election of representatives of public universities, a null vote was recorded.

As a first act, the number with which each rector would appear on the respective voting card was drawn and it was specified that for these elections, the ONPE, as responsible for the organization and execution of the elections, issued in due course the regulations that would regulate the chose. During this process, some rectors declined to be candidates, so they only exercised their vote.

Next, the rectors of the public and private universities went to the separate rooms that were set up as voting rooms for them to cast their votes. Representatives of the National Election Jury were present at both voting locations.

According to the regulations of these elections, all the rectors who appeared on the registry had the right to elect and be elected; and for each election, a single voting table was formed made up of three regular members and three substitutes. The board members were ONPE servants.

According to the aforementioned regulations, the voter status was exclusive to the rectors of the participating universities, and could not be delegated. It also established that in no case would participation as a voter be admitted to a person other than the one who appears on the registry prepared in accordance with the list sent by the National Superintendence of Higher University Education (Sunedu) through the Ombudsman’s Office.

The elected principal and alternate rectors of public and private universities will become members of the Special Commission in charge of the public competition of merits that will be held for the election of the new members of the National Board of Justice (JNJ).
