‘Pornography saved my life’: Amaranta Hank on the launch of her book

In an interview with El Tiempo YouTube, the renowned figure in the adult entertainment industry, Amaranta Hank, opened her heart about her experience in pornography, her struggle with depression and her feminist perspective.

Hank, known by her pseudonym inspired by the character Amaranta from “One Hundred Years of Solitude” and the writer Charles Bukowski, shared how her entry into the porn industry not only gave her a platform to express herself, but also allowed her access to quality medical care to treat your depression. According to her:

“Pornography in part saved my life because it allowed me to access, for example, quality health so that I don’t know whether to cure myself or treat that depression.”

The interview reveals that Amaranta Hank was diagnosed with depression at the age of 14, after the death of her father. Initially, she was medicated, but she abandoned the medication due to side effects. It was only later, when she began working as a porn actress, that she was able to seek out health professionals better qualified to treat her depression effectively.

“I thought a lot about the fact that, for example, pornography is something that I would not do at that time, I feel that it was a stage that was necessary for me, that helped me understand many things and confronted me with new contexts and strengthened me a lot as a person, as a woman” Amaranta Hank shared.

The interviewee, who identifies as a feminist, also addressed the topic of feminism and sex work. Although she admires and respects feminism, she has different views on abolitionist, maintaining that she does not agree with abolitionist feminism that seeks to eliminate any form of sex work.

“I am a feminist because I chose my freedom because I chose to make decisions about my body because today I am the owner of my body, my life, what I do and that makes me completely feminist,” Amaranta stated.
