It has already been reported that 95 cases of Covid-19 cases were registered in Latvia last day, which is the largest number of cases detected per day so far.

According to Perevoschikov, an average of 2,200 tests were performed every day in the country last week, while at the beginning of this week, the number of tests performed in one day reached about 3,900, or 75% more. “This is largely due to the use of saliva tests. This method is less invasive and easier to perform, but the results are as valuable as taking a swab sample,” the epidemiologist explained.

At the same time, according to the SPKC expert, the current testing is more targeted, as a large part of the detected cases are related to previously known sources of infection. Perevoshchikov noted that the three outbreaks accounted for most of Tuesday’s new cases. Namely, it is the outbreak detected in Daugavpils in connection with the ice hockey hall, the outbreak detected in Olaine in a company and the previously detected outbreak in Kuldīga in a textile company.

The expert stressed that not only an increase in the number of infected, but also the proportion of positive samples, which has reached 1.6% in the last two days, indicates that the disease is more widespread, compared to 1% last week.

The epidemiologist also found that at least three work groups had an intense spread of Covid-19. Perevoschikov explained that the spread of Covid-19 can be prevented if employees are informed and stop not coming to work with symptoms.

The SPKC expert also informed that the center conducts more extensive screening in companies, but at the same time there are several epidemiological safety measures that can be taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the workplace.

These include reducing the number of staff present on site or in the same room, as well as refraining from holding large-scale meetings. The epidemiologist also encouraged, as far as possible, working remotely, performing disinfection measures, ventilating the premises and regularly disinfecting hands.

Of the 95 Covid-19 cases reported on Tuesday, the highest number of cases detected per day to date, 63 have been reported to be infected from previously known sources. Four more have been infected abroad – in Ukraine, Russia and Austria, but the conditions of infection are being clarified for 28 people and the epidemiological investigation is ongoing.

4271 Covid-19 tests were performed last day, which is the largest amount of tests performed so far. A total of 320,018 studies have been performed in the country since the appearance of Covid-19.

Currently, there are 480 cases of Covid-19 in Latvia. A total of 1,824 people have been confirmed to be infected with Covid-19, while 1,307 patients have recovered. 37 people who had confirmed infection with Covid-19 have died in Latvia.

Previously, the highest number of Covid-19 cases was discovered on April 1, when 48 cases of Covid-19 cases were registered in the country during the day.
