NYC will continue to require masks in public schools

The city’s Department of Education assures that it will continue to require the use of masks to students and to the teaching and administrative staff of schools.

The announcement comes after learning that the state government is seeking to end the use of tobacco in schools and youth camps.

Through a letter, the state informed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the intention to allow school districts to end this requirement as of Monday, unless the CDC says otherwise.

The state indicates that the use of the mask will be highly recommended for unvaccinated students and staff, but will not be required.

State government school officials say schools could set their own stricter guidelines.

In response, the municipal Education Department stated: “The health and safety of our students, teachers and staff remain our top priority. According to state guidance, local districts can implement standards that work best for their communities, we will continue our policy of masks in our schools “.
