New Ultrasound Technology Provides Answers for Normal or High-Risk Pregnancies

Is this a normal pregnancy or not?

This is one of the questions to which, according to the president of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, they will be able to answer with the advanced technology of the new ultrasounds.

“We are expanding our early pregnancy testing center,” said gynecologist Kathleen Morrell, adding that they will now offer same-day or next-day appointments.

“We’ll keep them from going to the emergency room and they won’t waste time without being able to see a specialist to find out what’s going on with their pregnancy,” the doctor said.

The machines were purchased thanks to a $500,000 grant from Governor Kathy Hochul through the Expanding Access to Safe Medical and Procedural Abortion initiative in New York State.

The Early Pregnancy Assessment Center or EPAC, for its acronym in English, at this location is the first and only hospital provider in Brooklyn that offers necessary and urgent care in the first three months of pregnancy, which is the most vulnerable stage.

“Sometimes it can be an ectopic pregnancy that can take a patient’s life,” said Dr. Scott Chudnoff.
