New Ukrainian Ambassador Wows Bulgarians with Traditional-Inspired Dress

In her first address to the Bulgarians, Olesya Ilashchuk dressed in a garment inspired by the traditional vishivanka

A beautiful designer dress in the national colors of Ukraine – this is how users on social networks there described the outfit in which the new Ukrainian ambassador Olesya Ilashchuk appeared in her first address to the Bulgarians after presenting her credentials to President Rumen Radev on Friday. The 47-year-old diplomat with no previous experience did it in Bulgarian.

However, there was no lack of biting comments. The editor of “European Justice” Sergey Sidorenko wrote on Facebook that it is unacceptable for the beauty to appear “in a dressing gown”. The Ukrainians themselves divided into two camps on social networks – “for” and “against” Her Excellency’s dress. The fact that there was no average opinion on the subject is defined in the fashion world by one word – couture.

Ilashchuk’s choice of clothing is by no means accidental. The dress, the price of which is at least BGN 3,000, is by the Ukrainian designer from Lviv Yulia Magdich. She founded her brand in 2013 – when anti-government protests broke out in the country. Her inspiration comes from Ukrainian traditions, which the designer breaks through her modern look. At the heart of Ukrainian history is the traditional embroidered shirt called vyshyvanka. Magdić uses it for his characteristic models, enriching them with ethnic 3D embroidery, developed on the basis of clothes in museums.

Yulia Magdych’s iconic Ukrainian models can be found in more than 50 countries. Some of the biggest fashion magazines in the world have written about the brand, such as “Vogue”, “Observer” and WWD. Celebrities like Catherine Zeta-Jones and Kelly Osbourne have been spotted in the enchanting flower-like silhouettes.
