New Fund at Chicoutimi Hospital Provides Financial Support for Young Adults with Cancer

A new fund to financially help adults aged 18 to 35 suffering from cancer has been created at the Chicoutimi Hospital.

The singer Marc-André Fortin is the spokesperson. At the age of 28, he was diagnosed with tongue cancer, despite having a mortgage on his hands and several professional commitments on the calendar.

It’s not fun, it’s scary, it’s destabilizing, we always think of the worst. And at that age, we have just bought a house, we are in a career momentum, explains the man who finds himself, 13 years later, in great health.

The fund, which is part of the Fondation de ma vie, which supports the Chicoutimi Hospital, aims to provide money to sick students and young professionals, so that they no longer have to worry about paying hospital bills. groceries and monthly payments related to their housing, for example.

The Louis-Philippe Janvier fund is what it’s also for, to relieve stress, or at least part of it, because we have to put our energy on healing, on the operation, on the treatments.

People could also receive money to be able to receive care outside of the hospital and cover the resulting accommodation bills.

Vulnerable

The fund is an initiative of the Louis-Philippe Janvier foundation, which has already contributed $30,000 to start it. According to the organization’s coordinator, members of this age group, often finding themselves without insurance, are particularly left behind when illness knocks at their door.

There was a lack, there were needs. These adults have different needs from more mature adults, believes Émilie Janvier.

To obtain financial support, young workers suffering from cancer receiving care at the Chicoutimi Hospital must contact a member of the healthcare staff and complete some documents. Five people have already benefited from it.

Founded in 1989, the Louis-Philippe Janvier Foundation was created by Benoit Janvier and Johanne Lussier in honor of their ill son, now deceased. They are the parents of singer Marie-Ève Janvier, who has been promoting the cause in the media for several years.
