New doctor vaccinates more than 400 children against corona – SWR news

Actually a normal vaccination campaign on Saturday in Neuwied – but the police were alerted. A doctor from Neuwied vaccinated children and had received threats as a result.

In Neuwied, more than 400 children between the ages of 5 and 11 were vaccinated against Corona on Saturday. The action took place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the auditorium of the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium. The vaccine was from BioNTech. That was about 120 vaccinations per hour on Saturday.

Children were looked after after vaccination

The vaccination campaign was carried out by the orthopedic surgeon Dr. Markus Ackermann organized and carried out together with a pediatrician. The pediatrician answered questions from parents and looked after the children after the vaccination. There were three vaccination lanes, five medical workers and a nurse vaccinated.

Threats leading up to the action

The action went smoothly. However, the police had been alerted – because hate mail had been sent to Ackermann beforehand. A 19-page email was sent to the school where the vaccination campaign took place. In this Ackermann was compared to the doctor and National Socialist war criminal Josef Mengele, who had carried out cruel experiments on children during National Socialism. The mail said, among other things, that Ackermann poisoned children. In addition, death notices from people who had allegedly died of vaccinations were enclosed – all anonymously. He was also threatened in the email that he would be put on a list and that a just punishment would be taken care of. The school administration then alerted the police. She had the vaccination campaign on Saturday under special observation and stopped by from time to time. Ackermann believes that his practice software, which people use to log in, has also been hacked. Accordingly, after about 60 registrations online, nothing went on and the parents had to register by phone.

Doctor: “The tone of the opponent is getting sharper”

Ackermann has already done major vaccination campaigns and has been attacked several times. But he says the tone has become sharper. When he vaccinated 12 to 17 year olds in the spring, around 15 to 20 people demonstrated against the vaccination campaign.

Doctor expects more tolerance

Ackermann said he had already discussed with vaccination opponents. But he has the impression that these are inaccessible for his arguments, so the doctor. The main argument of the opponents is that the vaccine only has an emergency approval and is not a tried and tested vaccine. Ackermann says that he expects more tolerance from the opponents – just as they would not want to be vaccinated, which he accepts, they should not prevent those who want to be vaccinated from doing so.

Rhineland-Palatinate

The fourth corona wave also has Rhineland-Palatinate under control. Stricter rules apply again, especially for those who have not been vaccinated. You can find the current development here on the blog.

Parents also want to protect children from Long-Covid

Some parents who have their children vaccinated also argue they wanted to protect their children from the risk of Long Covid disease. Even a woman from Cologne came to the pediatrician’s vaccination campaign with her child. She tells of a friend who used to be an athlete and can no longer go up the stairs. She wants to spare her children that. Others also find it just more practical to vaccinate their children than to test them every time before taking piano or ballet lessons.
