National Puerto Rican Parade 2022 Honorees: Giselle Blondet, Justina Machado, and More!

With great pride and emotion, the organizers of the National Puerto Rican Parade said that the people honored in this edition have contributed to the theme of this year’s parade.

“Music, Culture and Joy”.

The organizers shared a list of more than two dozen successful and award-winning Puerto Ricans who have been chosen as honorees.

Among them, actress and television personality Giselle Blondet, known for her work on Sábado Gigante, will be this year’s grand marshal.

Actress Justina Machado, known for shows like “One Day at A Time” and Jane the Virgin, will be this year’s Queen.

The singer Judy Torres, known as the “Queen of Freestyle” will be the godmother and the actor Ismael Cruz Cordova known for his role in the television series “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power” will march as the godfather.

Present for Tuesday’s announcement was another person to be honored in the Parade — Tony-nominated musical theater actress Josie de Guzman.

“I was here at the beginning, but Puerto Rico I grew up with my culture, I grew up and Puerto Rico is my heart. That’s where I started and that’s where it ended. So no, for me this is a great honor. A great honor of a lifetime,” de Guzman said.

The iconic procession spans 35 blocks along Fifth Avenue, from 44th to 79th Street.

Organizers say the past few years have been difficult during the pandemic, but now they want to bring joy to New Yorkers at this event.

“Enthusiasm. I think that this is the most important thing of all, that we all want to present ourselves on Fifth Avenue, to show the whole world what it is, what we Puerto Ricans are and that we are here and we are still achieving many good things.” said Louis Maldonado, a member of the organizing board.

The organizers recalled that this Parade was born from a desire to represent the community and that today they continue their efforts to recognize the achievements of the Puerto Rican people.

“We are very proud of the ‘parade’ that is coming in June. It’s something for the Puerto Rican community in New York and across the country. And in Puerto Rico we look forward to it with great joy,” said Lillian Rodríguez López, president of the Parade.
