MTA urges people to use public transportation during the holidays

The MTA says it is working overtime this holiday season so all travelers can reach their destinations.

The agency encourages New Yorkers to use public transportation and will provide additional service in the morning for riders attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

There will be additional services to accommodate spectators on the Line 1 train and the 42nd Street shuttle.

“Happy Thanksgiving, riders! This year, and every year, we are grateful to you,” the MTA wrote in a message on social media.

The Long Island Rail Road will also have additional trains today.

All routine maintenance on the city’s tunnels and bridges will be suspended to make way for heavy traffic.

This Thanksgiving, the city’s subway and buses will operate on a Sunday schedule and the Staten Island Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule.

For real-time information and service updates, users can visit their website or download their app and receive the latest alerts.
