Michel Cymes: “I must have been a farmer in a previous life”

Michel Cymes commits a new foray into the field of fiction, no longer in a doctor’s coat but in that of a veterinarian. A potentially recurring character that he embodied with the greatest pleasure.

How did this collection project come about?

Murders in the land of Oléron having won the support of viewers, the patron saint of France Televisions, Anne Holmes, expressed the desire to see me play again, but in a different register than that of doctor and offered me this role of veterinarian. I liked it right away because we are not too far from medicine, because, as a child, I wanted to be a vet, and because I love the rural environment, the countryside, the smell of straw, the animals… I must have been a farmer in a previous life. In any case, I like to imagine it.

Did you feel, all the same, stepping out of your comfort zone?

A great challenge! Especially since we are talking about my second foray into the field of fiction and acting is not my primary profession. I was a forensic Murders at. I knew all the gestures. I am a veterinarian in The Doc and the Vet. I had, for example, never seen or practiced lambing. And it has nothing to do with having a childbirth. Even if the birth, in itself, is a great moment of emotion. I experienced very strong things on this shoot, lambing, banquet, meeting with real Auvergnats, with sublime landscapes, not to mention the team, formidable, and the pleasure of giving the reply to Dounia Coesens, whose playing m ‘wore, literally.

What does that say about the campaign?

It speaks of a region and of these peasants who love their profession, but are crumbling under debt and the workload. It speaks of this rural France that restrictions and mutualizations gradually deprive of their infrastructure. It’s about these people who, more than ever, help each other and show solidarity. Obviously, I liked it.

If this unit is the success we wish it, La Doc et le Véto could become a collection or series. Are you yourself becoming an actor?

I am 63 years old. My career as a doctor is not forever. That of facilitator either. Acting as an actor could become a great source of inspiration. As long as there are roles for someone my age. As long as the characters offered to me are interesting. Still, this is not my job. And that as long as I practice medicine, I don’t see myself slipping into the shoes of a cop, crook, or villain, out of respect for my patients and for the sake of credibility.
