Says he killed his great love

– My client will say that he killed the one he loved. She was his great love. This happened in affect because it was too much for him, says the accused 21-year-old’s defender, Jostein Løken to TV 2.

The lawyer does not want to go further into what the accused means by saying that it was too much, but he will explain this in court.

– He completely lost control of himself. He was the one who called the emergency services when he understood what he had done. All the way, he has explained himself openly to the police, according to Løken.

On Monday, the trial begins in Agder District Court after Cansel Godek was killed in Evje on the evening of October 30 last year. The accused 21-year-old has had a long-term relationship with the deceased, and they have children together.

The accused comes from Afghanistan and has a temporary residence permit in Norway. He has lived in the country since 2015.

Want severe punishment

According to the indictment, the man stabbed Godek at least 14 times with a knife. She suffered injuries to her neck, chest and shoulder. She died of shortness of breath and bleeding.

The 21-year-old is also accused of threatening Godek and another person in August last year, about two months before the murder. He is said to have said “I will kill you”, or similar, according to the indictment.

– He feels an enormous sense of guilt, and he wants a severe punishment. My client says he wants to serve as much punishment as possible. My job will be to make sure that he gets a fair sentence and that he does not serve more than what the law requires, says Løken.

Defendant warns that he will focus on the defendant’s state of mind when the murder was committed. According to the experts, he was not insane at the time of the crime.

Desperate situation

According to defense attorney Løken, it was a bit unclear whether there was an end between Godek and the accused when the murder took place.

– It was one of the reasons for the confusion that my client felt. He felt he was in a desperate situation, the lawyer says.

The prosecutor in the case is public prosecutor Jan Tallaksen.

– We will hear his explanation, and then we will go through the evidence in the case. It is about looking at the investigations the police have done and hearing what the forensic pathologist says. We must hold up against the defendant’s explanation, Tallaksen says.

TV 2 has not succeeded in getting a comment from the assistance lawyer for Cansel Godek’s survivors.
