Man Convicted of Robbing and Killing Food Delivery Worker Sentenced to 23 Years to Life in Prison

The subject convicted of the death of a deliverer on the Lower East Side in 2021 will spend 23 years to life in state prison.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Joseph Sandoval robbed and killed Sala Miah, an immigrant from Bangladesh who worked distributing food.

Sandoval had pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder in April of this year.

The incident occurred in October 2021.

Investigators say Sandoval accosted Miah as he was sitting on a bench resting on his electric bike.

He demanded his means of transportation and when the victim refused, he stabbed him in the stomach.

Later when Miah tried to run away, Sandoval chased him down, slashed him across the face, stole the keys to his electric bike, and escaped with it.

His arrest came a few days later.
