Jungfrau Zeitung – a conciliatory end to a special season

DHB Rotweiss Thun | 11. April 2021

The last game of the Fanion team in the relegation round ended with a clear 29:21 home win against Yellow Winterthur. And on Monday, the women’s handball team will start preparing for the new season.

The last game day of the relegation round on Thursday evening, April 8, 2021, could actually be viewed as a simple test game. Both Yellow Winterthur and Rotweiss Thun were already on the safe table ranks, which had nothing to do with a risk of relegation. “What the two teams presented over 60 minutes, however, did not remind you of a test game, but more of a playoff game.”

Rarely has such an emotion been seen in the Rotweiss Thun team as this evening. Every goal, every parade and every good cover job was celebrated and cheered. Maybe it was due to the fact that this constellation of players won’t play together like that next season. Six players played their last game in red and white dress this newspaper reported.

Good start to the game

The red and white team got off to a good start in the game. The second wave often led to a wonderful majority on the wing, which is why a normal attack was rare in the first few minutes. Rotweiss pulled away with four goals. Unfortunately, the fast pace from the second wave could not be maintained for the full 30 minutes. The Winterthur women used the misses and two-minute penalties of the Thuners and pulled up right up to the break. Despite the four-goal lead at times, the break result was 13:13.

… like in fairy tales

In the end, the second half was almost like a fairy tale. Until the 45 ‘minute it was still a head-to-head race between the two teams. But suddenly the Thun women turned it up again. Noëlle Frey, who was increasingly used again in the circle, showed once again why she is one of the best circle runners in Switzerland. With three goals in a row by Frey, Rotweiss Thun pulled away and could no longer be caught. In the last ten minutes, Urs Mühlethaler gave the younger players the chance to be on the field again and put their skills to the test. Fortunately, all of them, with the exception of one player, scored a goal that evening.

The victory of 29:21 then moved into the background after the final whistle. The focus was clearly on the emotions of the entire season, as well as the sad farewells to long-time companions of the club.

There was a lot of emotion in this game. Because of the thought that this would be the last game, the Thuners played with much more serenity and joy. This serenity and joy is ultimately also reflected in the result. The SPL1 team should keep this relaxed attitude and enjoyment of the game in the future. Because on Monday things will start again: Preparations for the new season will already start again.
