Today, the EP plenary session began with a report on how the Latvian law enforcement authorities are requesting the waiver of the parliamentary immunity for Ushakov. Mr Nagla explained that the decision to waive immunity would then be taken to the EP’s Committee on Legal Affairs, where the Member himself would be heard.
Ushakov’s lawyer Viktor Tikhonov expressed confusion as to why the person being heard had become the “culprit”. “This is a conversation that we also want to stimulate in the EP, if the prosecutor’s office insists on it, namely why he has not been recognized as a victim,” Tikhonov told Panorama.
