Suspects face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property

The quality of counterfeit banknotes is so high that most special verification tools do not recognize counterfeit.
Law enforcers have exposed two criminals in the sale of counterfeit foreign currency. They set up an illegal business of buying counterfeit US dollars and euros abroad and selling them on the territory of Ukraine. The defendants were detained while trying to sell 240 thousand dollars, informs National Police on Wednesday, September 29.
It is indicated that a 42-year-old native of the Luhansk region and a 34-year-old resident of the Lviv region were detained for the sale of fakes.
“We found out that the defendants met the man via the Internet and offered him to exchange foreign currency. – said the head of the department of investigation in the field of economic and service activities of the investigation department of the Kiev police Oleg Kiselev.
The detainees were informed of suspicion of a criminal offense under the article on storage, acquisition, transportation for the purpose of sale, as well as the sale of illegally manufactured counterfeit foreign currency, committed repeatedly, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, on an especially large scale (part 2, 3 of Art. .199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Also, the investigators filed a petition with the court to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention. The suspects face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
In turn, the metropolitan prosecutor’s office notesthat the quality of the said counterfeit banknotes is so high that most of the special means of verification do not recognize the counterfeit.
