Months after a corona infection, the health of many patients is “shockingly bad,” reports the Long Fund on the basis of a survey. About 95 percent of those surveyed struggled with daily activities.
“We are really shocked by this. More than six in ten even have trouble walking, ”Long Fund director Michael Rutgers told AD. The Longfonds, CIRO treatment and knowledge center and Maastricht University surveyed more than 1,600 people with complaints after corona. They reported fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pressure, headache and muscle pain.
More than 90 percent of those questioned have never been hospitalized. About 43 percent have not even been tested. The average age is 53, and 85 percent say their health was good for corona. This is still the case at 6 percent. “The health of corona patients who have experienced the disease at home is shockingly bad,” said the Longfonds director. “That thousands to tens of thousands of people still have complaints is certain; the question is whether this will continue to be the case in the long term. ”
Ex-corona patient Marcel de Kruijff is one of the people who still has serious complaints three months after his infection. The 43-year-old vet continued to “struggle,” he says in the AD. “Then the fever dropped to 37.8 again and I thought:” Yes, it will pass! But then I relapsed again. At some point I started to take this into account and started hoarding to survive. I was already skinny, but at one point I weighed only 68 kilos with my 1.91 meters. “” He slowly strengthens. “I had zero concentration and continuously felt like I was drunk.”
For corona, Marcel exercised three times a week and ate healthy. “If I compare that to what I can do now, it really makes no sense. I find it bizarre that you can go back in such a short time. You deteriorate so quickly. The first few weeks I couldn’t even take a cap off a coke bottle. ”
He still cannot keep working full-time. Monday and Tuesday went well. “But on Thursday I was only two hours, when I felt that I was breathing wrong again. I stopped on the way home, because driving was not responsible. ”
