How dare they tell us what to do with our bodies?

From 12 noon women and men began to gather in the emblematic Union Square against the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice that ended the constitutional protections of abortion at the federal level.

“Totally shocked, totally,” Ellie Martinez said.

Ellie has a son, a daughter, a grandson and three granddaughters. The latter are the ones that concern him the most since they live in Florida, a predominantly conservative state and one of those that will probably eradicate the right to abortion.

Martinez. Grandmother.

“We were having lunch and I told my oldest granddaughter who is 14 years old, this is going to affect you and your sisters. They will have to have children when they do not want to have them, the life of poverty will continue, of need, of dependence on a man. Those are the things that bother me,” added Martínez.

Just like her, other women came out to raise their voices in protest, dissatisfied with the decision announced on Friday morning.

“I have a daughter and that way it affects me, because I have to fight for her so that she has her rights. In that it affects me personally, in my daughter, because it is not possible for me to have those rights and now with what they have done she cannot have them, ”said Olga Rodríguez on her part.

“How dare they tell us what to do with our bodies? I am here for our grandchildren, the future, the young people who have to stand up as leaders right now, take the lead, because they are doing this to all of us,” said Nicole.

All those gathered in Union Square, both women and men, insist that they will continue to demonstrate and fight for women’s reproductive rights until the new law is repealed.

“We have to take to the streets and protest until this illegitimate decision is overturned. We cannot accept this decision that turns women into an incubator”, said Ruby Martín.

Over the next few days, protesters both for and against the Supreme Court decision are expected to continue to pour into the streets of New York to express their views.
