Information published on the government’s website on Covid-19 on Saturday shows that there were 113,122 new cases of coronavirus infection in the country in the past 24 hours, almost twice as many as a week ago.
The number of cases of Covid-19 infection in Russia is growing rapidly, with the country’s omicron type dominating the country.
At the beginning of the pandemic, Russia had a short-lived and strong arc, but later Russia opted for softer restrictions, hoping to protect the country’s economy.
Although four different Covid-19 vaccines have been available in the country for months, only a little over half of the population in Russia has completed the primary vaccination course.
Data released by the Russian government show that Covid-19 has killed 330,111 people in the country since the start of the pandemic.
Such data are contradicted by Russia’s statistics department, Rosstat, which broadly defines deaths from Covid-19 and estimates that the total number of coronavirus deaths is almost twice as high as official data show.
Rosstat said on Friday that Russia’s population had shrunk by more than a million last year, the biggest drop since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
