Festival “Staro Riga” is postponed, but residents are invited to participate in the campaign “Staro at home”

“The decision to postpone the festival was not an easy one, as was the cancellation of the traditional events of the national holiday,” says Maris Krastiņš, Director of the Education, Culture and Sports Department of the Riga City Council.

“This has definitely been a difficult and difficult year, people long for the holidays. Unfortunately, large-scale celebrations are not possible, but we have the opportunity for everyone to create a holiday in their own home.

I invite everyone to be creative and everyone to take part in the campaign, thus increasing the feeling of being together and at the same time taking care of their own and fellow people’s safety. We have historically proved that being together is our strength, and this is one of the ways we can be together even remotely. ”

“The Staro Rīga Light Festival is already under development, and we are currently planning how to implement the festival at the beginning of next year,” says Diāna Čivle, the artistic director of the Staro Rīga festival. Until then, the residents had invited to participate in the participation campaign “#Staro at home”, implementing their creative idea and creating a light design in their homes. “

Five Latvian artists of different generations – Helena Heinrihsone, Katrīna Neiburga, Kristians Brekte, Kristaps Ancāns and Miķelis Mūrnieks – will offer their creative solutions for light works in video format in the coming days, which will be shown on the festival’s communication channels on the Internet.

In the video rolls, the artists will offer various interpretations of the creation of light objects and performances, which residents are invited to follow or discover their creative spirit and, inspired by the artists’ ideas, create their own light works, thus becoming participants of the #Staro home campaign.

Institutions and art schools, companies and groups of friends are also invited to take part in the campaign, creating a festive feeling in Riga at a time when Latvia is celebrating its birthday.

“I invite everyone to be creative, create various colorful light objects and decorations, and stay safe at home to enjoy time with their family,” invites artist Miķelis Mūrnieks.

During the week of the #Staro home campaign from November 16 to 22, everyone is invited to capture their creative ideas in photo or video format and publish them on social media with the theme #staromajas.
