Fatal Airdrop Tragedy in Gaza Strip Leaves 5 Dead and 10 Injured: Latest Updates

In the Gaza Strip, at least five people were killed and 10 injured when an airplane dropped humanitarian aid on a refugee camp. About this channel CNN said journalist Khader Al-Zaaun, who was present at the scene of the tragedy.

The incident occurred in the Al-Shati camp west of Gaza City on Friday. At the same time, the journalist could not say which country was behind the airdrop of humanitarian aid from the plane.

Video of the incident shows a large cargo plane parachuting out packages or sacks, likely containing humanitarian aid. Most of the packages slowly fall to the ground, but some begin to fall apart in the air, and for some, the parachutes simply did not open. At the same time, you can hear something loudly falling to the ground at high speed.

Muhammad Al-Sheikh, head of the emergency department at Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City, confirmed that five people were killed in the incident. Several more wounded, he said, are in serious condition in the hospital.

Situation in the Gaza Strip

As UNIAN wrote, as a result of the fighting between the Israeli army and Hamas militants, the Gaza Strip was virtually completely destroyed. The population of the enclave is on the verge of starvation due to a lack of food supplies. The authorities of neighboring Egypt refuse to host Palestinian refugees and actually participate in the blockade of the sector along with Israel.

Late last week the US Army started to reset planes carrying bags of humanitarian aid over the Gaza Strip. This happens with the consent of Israel. Representatives of the Jordanian army are also participating in this humanitarian mission.
