Mark Gurman from Bloomberg now says in his newsletter Power On that he believes that Apple will give its Macs the FaceID feature within the next few years. According to Gurman, however, TouchID will still be present in some of Apple’s products, as it offers equivalent security at a lower price. It is unclear which products would have TouchID if everything had already been switched to FaceID. He further says that in the future Apple will give its more expensive iPhones a camera and FaceID sensors behind the screen, to be able to differentiate the top models from the rest.
The new 24-inch iMac, which came this year, would also, according to Gurman, first come with FaceID, but these plans were changed and postponed to a later iMac. For MacBooks, the screen part itself is so much thinner than the other products, which makes it more difficult to fit the necessary sensors for FaceID.
